Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski

Inżynier, astronauta Europejskiej Agencji Kosmicznej

Dr Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski is a Polish engineer and project astronaut with the European Space Agency (ESA), who in June 2025 flew to the International Space Station (ISS) as part of the Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4), leading the first Polish national scientific and technological mission to the ISS – Ignis. During his two-week stay in orbit, he carried out a programme of scientific experiments, technology demonstrations and educational activities, prepared in collaboration with Polish institutions and international partners, thereby strengthening Poland’s position in European and global space exploration.

The Ignis mission marked a landmark moment for the Polish space sector, combining advanced scientific research, technology demonstrations and extensive public outreach activities. As part of the mission, experiments were carried out in the fields of nanomaterials, engineering, biotechnology, and human physiology and psychology.

Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski is a graduate of the Łódź University of Technology and the Université de Nantes, where he obtained his Master’s degrees with distinction in 2008. In the same year, he also completed his engineering studies (Diplôme d’Ingénieur) at the École Polytechnique de l’Université de Nantes, again with distinction. In 2011, he was awarded a PhD with distinction from the Université d’Aix-Marseille, specialising in the design of radiation-hardened systems for space applications.
